Paul SteinbergMy skills as a painter have come mostly from experience and perseverance over time. I started with pencil drawing and eventually went on to soft pastel, acrylic, charcoal, watercolor and oil paint. I have watched other painters at every level to find what makes their work special. I have worked in classrooms and studios aside many talented people. Sharing techniques has been important. But painting is not as much about technique as it is about expression and vision. If I had more time I would love to develop a painting through sketches and work up to a fully detailed work. Since I have to split my time between painting and supporting my family, I have to work primarily in my studio. Photographs are my sketchbooks. The most important thing to understand about my work is my commitment to each subject as an individual work. The unifying factor in all of my painting is the rich natural color and energy that I attempt to bring to each work. |

Alyona SteinbergAlyona has been developing and perfecting her craft for five years. At 17, she has already shown herself to be a very perceptive and intuitive artist. Her drawings have a personality and a joy that attracts the viewer in. She has done several commissions already that have been very well received. We have struggled and fought not as father and daughter but as artist and student and we have both learned from this tug of war. Alyona expects perfection of herself. My task has been to encourage that expectation while getting her to accept each level of perfection as she attains it. She has her father’s passion. She is developing a sharp eye. I have directed her with pencils and a bit with paints. She has begun the exploration of colored pencils completely on her own. She is a lovely girl and the continuation of her father’s mission. I hope the journey she has begun will be as rewarding for her as it has been for me. |
